How to increase fertility

Strike at the right time:

  • Best chance to get pregnant is on the day of ovulation.
  • For a woman on a regular 28 -day cycle the day of ovulation will be about day 14 from the start of her period, but this can vary, so it might help to keep a diary

Reduce alcohol and cut out smoking:

  • For men it lowers sperm count and affects the health of the sperm.
  • For women – a­ffects ovulation in women and can reduce fertility and implantation rates.

Measure your BMI (Body Mass Index): Indicator of health.

  • Women: ideally should have a BMI between 19 and 30 before starting IVF treatment.
  • Men: Excess body fat also a significant cause of low sperm counts

Eat Well: Eat a healthy, balanced diet

  • Helps maintain an ideal body weight
  • Keeps the hormone levels of the body normal
  • Improves health of reproductive system

Exercise: Maintains a healthy body (*For women, exercise moderately, avoid intense workouts during the treatment cycle)

  • Helps in burning excess fat
  • Reduces the effect of stress on hormone levels. Boosts testosterone.

Say no to stress:

  • Enjoy each other’s company, get home on time, maintain a positive mindset
  • Take frequent holidays, join support groups, share your feelings, attend social events

Get more sleep:

  • Regular sleep of 8 hours or more help in optimizing fertility.
  • Sleep deprivation can increase irregular periods among women

Men should avoid hot baths and tight clothing:

  • Overheated testicles can temporarily lower sperm counts.
  • Avoid saunas, hot baths, and tight underwear.
